Floral decoration is a mainstay because of this unrivaled natural beauty. Drying and preservation techniques allow you to decorate your home with true flowers instead of sometimes-inferior artificial alternatives. Dried flower wreaths provide a spectacular way to keep nature's beauty alive for several years.

After all, plant life tends to wither, along with its beauty, when left alone. However, flowers can be carefully dried or otherwise preserved in ways that allow them to retain most of their natural beauty.

Some flowers can be dried on the plant. Generally this requires a period of hanging in a relatively dark, dry space. All though the beauty of the flower is preserved, often the delicate petals can break away easily increasing the possibility of damage when handling.

Other flowers respond better to being dried in a silica compound. Silica, which is something similar to completely dry sand, can draw out the moisture in a flower while leaving it completely intact and retaining its natural beauty.

While a glycerin solution works better with others. The flower absorbs the glycerin through its stems, resulting in a completely preserved, yet pliable decorative piece.

Dried flowers are then used to make some of the most stunning wreaths imaginable. By using wreaths with real flowers’, you are keeping nature’s perfect beauty alive right in your own home.
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; If only we could keep them a little longer to extend the holiday season into winter. We can!

You can easily take your fresh or preserved Christmas wreath into New Year's Day by substituting the red bows and the like with gold or silver ones and some streamers. Other possible decorations include a Happy New Years banner or hat and some small party horns or plastic champagne glasses. Get creative and have some fun.

I’ll have more on this subject throughout the coming year. Buy a beautiful Christmas wreath from A Wreath 4 All Seasons and add your own decorations to it. Look around your yard and find natural decorations and add them to the wreath. You can use fishing line or a glue gun to attach the decorations to the wreath.

FRESH-Traditional Evergreen Wreath

If you are a bird lover, buy a few small stuffed birds at your local craft store to use on your wreath. Winter doves and cardinals are my favorites. If you live near the ocean, add sea shells, sea urchin shells, starfish, and other sea life like hermit crab shells. These all look beautiful displayed amongst the fresh noble fir boughs of the Christmas wreath.

Candy lovers can add small candy canes and hard candy. Visitors can help themselves and you can replenish the candy on the Christmas wreath as needed.

Consider adding fruit to your wreath. Red fruits like pomegranates, crabapples, sprigs of red pepper berries and of course, holly berries, look beautiful. Eucalyptus, magnolia, holly and amaryllis also look wonderful. Eucalyptus adds a pungent aroma to the fresh, fragrant scent of the noble fir. Add garland around your door and continue the decorating theme of your Christmas wreath on the garland.

Lights can also be added to Christmas wreaths. Buy a string of battery operated lights and string them through the wreath. Use your imagination to make your Christmas wreath unique and personal this year. It's much easier if you start out with a fresh Christmas wreath and add your own decorations to it.

Fresh Wreath Care

Our fresh wreaths are made from natural botanicals that are sustainably harvested from Pacific Northwest forests and handcrafted into the beautiful items shown on our web site A Wreath 4 All Seasons. border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Wreaths are primarily thought of as Christmas decorations, but in truth, a wreath can be used to decorate a home for any season. Autumn wreaths take the most beautiful essentials of the fall season and join them in one creative statement. They often feature the striking colors of fall foliage and reflect an "out-of-doors" or "countryside" look.

Autumn wreaths can be crafted with any variety of details from the rustic, neutral look of a grapevine to a woodier twig base like salal or boxwood. There are no rules or limits you must obey when creating an autumn wreath. The idea is to capture the essence of autumn within the wreath which can be accomplished in any number of ways.

An autumn wreath is an exercise in creativity and many beautiful decorations have been produced around the theme. Whatever the occasion, a decorative wreath can brighten any living space, and wreaths celebrating autumn provide a unique opportunity to bring the essence of the outdoors into your home.

FALL FESTIVAL & MARKET September 11, 2010

58000-D Basil & Purple Salal w/ Basil Boxwood 22"

For those of you who are in the New York area we would like to invite you to visit our booth at the United Methodist Church located on the corner of Hawkins Ave. and Smith St. (5 Corners), Lake Ronkonkoma, NY. Floral decoration is a mainstay because of its unrivaled natural beauty.

Todays drying and preservation techniques allow one to decorate their home with natural flowers instead of sometimes, inferior silk and artificial alternatives. Dried floral wreaths provide a spactacular way to keep nature's beauty alive in your home for several years.

Some flowers can be dried on the plant. Generally this requires a period of hanging in a relatively dark, dry space. All though the beauty of the flower is preserved, often the delicate petals can become brittle and break away easily increasing the possibility of damage when handling.

Other flowers respond better to drying when placed in a silica compound. Silica, which is sand that has been completely dried, can draw out the moisture in a flower while leaving it completely intact and still retaining its natural beauty.

A glycerin solution works better with others like Salal and Boxwood. The botanical absorbs the glycerin through its stem, resulting in a completely preserved, yet pliable decorative piece.

These dried flowers are then used to make some of the most stunning wreaths imaginable. By use wreaths made of real flowers, you are keeping nature's perfect beauty alive right in your own home.

Knowing When to Switch a Seasonal Wreath

I have found that my customers look for Seasonal wreaths that will suit their decorating needs for about a three year period of time. Four wreaths used for three to four months each will give you the updated brightness you desire and keep your entryway decor in line with the coming Seasons and Holidays!

A spring wreath can be hung at the beginning of March. Summer wreath goes up the first of June. My fall wreath comes out around mid September and Christmas goes up right after Thanksgiving. Some folks love to change their wreaths out frequently and some folks love being able to hang one up knowing it will be suitably gorgeous for a period of time and not worry about it again until time to swap it out.

Remember to think about the exterior of your home when considering a wreath. Use your wreath as a compliment to the exterior of your entryway. It should be eye pleasing but not brash or overstated. Let it welcome guests warmly into your home with a reflection of your personality.

For the inside decor, a piece which accents the room, its colors and style is appropriate and the specifics of that piece are completely your preference. You may have a rich Tuscan decor in the dining room, but prefer silks and grasses to dried pods, sticks and cones then so be it; and any good designer should be able to create a piece to satisfy your specifications.

Many wreaths, especially fall pieces, with rich deep tones and natural elements can easily be transitioned from a Seasonal wreath to a everyday piece simply by changing a themed bow or taking out the seasonal accent i.e.; scarecrow etc.. You get much more use out of a piece when you transition it from seasonal to everyday, if you prefer to.

Whatever type of wreath you are searching for remember a high quality, professionally designed wreath will be a little more costly than a craft show or hobby wreath. You will definitely get what you pay for. Cheap flowers are just that and will not hold up at all. Make the investment and give yourself a wreath you can be proud of for many years to come!

New Spring Wreath

A spring wreath can add to Easter or Mother's day celebrations. Spring is a great season for a wedding, and with a little thought you can find a theme that is right for you.

It can be challenging to get in a warm frame of mind if you are planning your wedding in the fall or winter. It is easier to imagine what your wedding will look like if you start planning it during the season you are getting married.

The right location can make all the difference for your theme. Make note of the colors used at your reception spaces because you will want everything to match your chosen theme.

Here are three hints for spring wedding themes:

Bright Colors
Different shades of pink, green and blue can be used in all aspects of a wedding. Some examples include your bridesmaid dresses, ceremony and reception decorations and flowers.
Colors can be combined with additional spring themes like pussy willows and other signs of spring, and your chosen theme can be used in everything from invitations to favors.

Flowers In Season
Beautiful spring flowers can really make all the difference for your wedding. Match them with your chosen wedding color, and work with your florist to come up with unique flower ideas. Spring floral wreaths make colorful and economical table centerpieces.

Signs of Spring
In addition to bright colors and flowers, spring brings with it other things like butterflies and outdoor activities. Think about what your perfect spring wedding should look like and where the reception should take place.

Getting married in a flower garden or under a tent can be a great theme, complete with a release of real butterflies at the conclusion of the ceremony.

These hints can applied to any season you are planning to get married.

Dried Wreaths Make Wonderful Addition to Home Décor

Wreaths - All Natural Spring, Fall and Christmas Wreaths

There are a lot of good wreaths companies on the internet offering a variety of wreaths. Some of the best values are wreaths that are made from all natural materials that have been dried and/or preserved.

Dried Wreaths

Dried Wreaths are just what the name implies; the floral has been dried ether in a controlled environment or by exposing the floral to natural sunlight. Many florals are dried in southern California or Baja Mexico because the warm weather, low humidity and exposure to the sun make perfect drying conditions.

Preserved Wreaths

Preserved Wreath florals are treated by adding a preservative agent to the floral material to give it a longer life span. Some preserving agents also enhance the color of some floral materials giving a more vibrant look that won't fade over time as much as natural coloring will. Many floral items cannot be dried because they just crumble and cannot be used to make a durable wreath to display in your home. Adding a preservative agent lengthens the life of the wreath and with the proper care these wreaths can last for many years.

Where to find all Natural Wreaths

At http://www.awreath4allseasons.com/ you will find a large selection of dried and preserved wreaths to choose from, all available for immediate delivery within 5-10 business days.

Choosing an Outdoor Wreath

The most famous type of outdoor wreath is, of course, the door wreath so often used at Christmas. Usually made from evergreen branches and decoratives that can withstand the elements, the Christmas wreath adorns millions of outside doors annually.

Christmas door wreaths are sturdy. The balsam fir or other evergreen branches tolerate the weather well without significant degradation. All other outdoor wreaths should share this quality. An outdoor wreath will be constantly exposed to the elements. Any outdoor wreath under consideration must be able to handle the probable climate of the region in which it will be used. It makes little sense, for instance, to use a delicately assembled floral wreath when it will be exposed to high winds. Likewise, a wreath resplendent in cloth bows is poorly suited for a rainy environment. Any wreath chosen for outdoor use must be sufficiently sturdy. Wreaths made from dried, preserved or dyed materials should never be exposed to the elements no matter how mild. They should be displayed in a protected space like a covered or enclosed porch.

Not only should the wreath itself be sturdy. It is also important that the strong base of the wreath be decorated in a manner allowing it to survive the weather. Delicate decorations should be avoided. Items fastened to a wreath should be affixed with wire or a similarly strong method. A small dab of glue from a hot glue gun or a thin piece of thread will never sufficiently attach decorations for an outdoor wreath.

With appropriate assembly and care, decorating with outdoor wreaths can improve the look of a home and make a warm and inviting place for guests.

Real Christmas Wreaths or Artificial Wreaths

The biggest reason people buy artificial wreaths is because they last for many years. They have an expected life of nine or ten years. Most people don’t keep them that long and of course they end up at the landfill where they will stay for 5000 years or more.

Real Christmas wreaths are a renewable resource. The trees are not cut down to harvest the branches used for Christmas wreaths. Around 12 to 18 inches of the branches are cut off or tipped as they say in Maine. These branches continue to grow year after year. Real Christmas wreaths are more of a renewable resource than even real Christmas trees. Even though Christmas tree farms typically plant up to three more trees for every one they cut down they are still cutting one down. Tipping trees is kind of like pruning your shrubbery. The branches grow back.

Conscientious consumers today concerned about the environment are taking the time to consider the consequences of their purchases. More and more people are making an effort to purchase products that use renewable resources. Easy to display and change with the seasons, decorative wreaths come in many varieties of colors, flowers, sizes and materials. Home decorating can be simplified and the home's beauty enhanced with the addition of one or two well placed decorative wreaths.

Dried wreaths are made of flowers and leaves that have been dried either in a controlled environment or by exposure to natural sunlight. These wreaths work best for people living in a humid climate. Without dense humidity, breakage and flower crumbling occurs quite easily.

Preserved wreaths are made of live flowers that have been chemically preserved. Some preserving agents also add a boost of color to give the wreath a longer life and more vibrant colors. These wreaths work best for people living in a dry climate as humidity often causes their artificially added color to run or their preservation to be compromised.

Depending on the flowers and foliage in your wreath, small adaptations can keep it in season all year round. In spring, consider adding a few sprigs of fresh greenery and even a few real or silk in-season blooms such as tulips or crocuses. In summer, remove the spring additions and add a warm, buttery silk bow with a fan of dried variegated grasses or small blooms such as orange blossoms. In fall, remove summer additions and add rust colored leaves and a spray of baby's breath running throughout or tied in a bow on the side. In winter, remove the fall additions and add a few small gold ornaments with a large red velvet bow.

Given proper care today’s beautiful decorative wreaths can grace any home for many seasons to come.

Advent Wreaths

Advent is the period preceding the Christmas season. It begins on the Sunday nearest November 30, the feast day of St. Andrew the Apostle, and covers four Sundays. Because the day it begins changes from year to year, so does the length of each Advent season. In 2008, Advent begins on November 30.

Advent wreaths have their origins in the folk traditions of northern Europe, where in the deep of winter people lit candles on wheel-shaped bundles of evergreen. Both the evergreen and the circular shape symbolized ongoing life. The candlelight gave comfort at this darkest time of the year, as people looked forward to the longer days of spring.

Later, Eastern European Christians adopted this practice. By the sixteenth century, they were making Advent wreaths much as we know them today. An advent wreath traditionally contains four candles-three purple and one rose. Purple dyes were once so rare and costly that they were associated with royalty; the Roman Catholic Church has long used this color around Christmas and Easter to honor Jesus. The three purple candles in the Advent wreath symbolize hope, peace, and love. These candles are lit on the first, second, and fourth Sundays of Advent. The rose candle, which symbolizes joy, is usually lit on the third Sunday.

Sometimes a fifth candle is placed inside the Advent wreath. This candle is lit on Christmas Day. It is white, the color associated with angels and the birth of Jesus.

Because Advent wreaths are an informal celebration, not all are the same. Instead of purple candles, some people use blue, which recalls the color of the night sky before daylight returns. Others use all white candles.

Fall Equinox

In the language of science, an equinox is either of two points on the celestial sphere where the ecliptic and the celestial equator intersect. The biggest trick when drying hydrangea is when you pick the flowers. It is best to pick them just before the anticipated first fall frost in your area. If you pick them earlier, they just will not dry right.

They can be dried by either hanging them upside down in a darkened room, or you can set them in a vase upright. The drying process is quite easy as long as you pick the flowers at the correct time. After they are dried, pick off any dead and discolored brown blooms.

Now, pick the type of base you want to use for a wreath. Metal, Styrofoam or grapevine type wreath bases are all available at your local craft store or online. You will also need some floral wire and a low melt point hot glue gun if you choose to do a Styrofoam wreath.

Think of balance in shape and color as you space out each bloom over the surface of the wreath base. You don’t want any sticking out above the others; you don’t want one side of the wreath to be fuller than the other. Try stepping back and looking from a distance and just think “balance”.

When you are done arranging the flowers, this wreath is either finished, or you can add to it. You can add small sprigs of dried baby’s breath or any other dried flowers, decorations or ribbons and bows. It really depends on the look you want to achieve.

For those of you who do not have the time or do not want to wait till the first frost you can purchase professionally handmade Hydrangea wreaths online. All though more expensive than making them yourself, given the proper care, these wreaths will last much longer thus save you time and money in the long run.

Memorial Day, May 26, 2008

Memorial Day, a legal holiday observed annually on the last Monday in May, in honor of the nation’s armed services personnel killed in wartime. The holiday was originally called Decoration Day because it is a time for decorating graves with flowers, wreaths and flags. Over time, the designation Memorial Day became far more common.

In the United States, local observances to honor the war dead became widespread following the American Civil War (1861-1865), which had taken more than 600,000 lives. These local observances inspired General John Alexander Logan, the leader of a Union veterans’ group called the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), to issue a general’s order in 1868 designating May 30 as a day for “strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land.” (By “the late rebellion,” Logan meant the Civil War, also known as the War of Rebellion.) Accordingly, on May 30, 1868, several thousand people gathered to observe Decoration Day at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Virginia. The memorial ceremonies were presided over by Washington officials such as General Ulysses Grant and included a tribute by General James A. Garfield. Following the speeches, thousands of war veterans, orphans, and other participants helped decorate the more than 20,000 graves of Civil War dead in the cemetery.

A number of towns in the United States claim to have originated the custom of decorating graves in memorial of the Civil War dead. However, in 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson signed a proclamation that declared Waterloo, New York, the birthplace of Memorial Day. Townspeople there had begun decorating graves of soldiers, flying flags at half-mast, and organizing parades of veterans 100 years earlier, in May 1866. Waterloo has continued this tradition every year.

In 1873 New York became the first state to declare a holiday on May 30. By the end of the 1800s, states throughout the nation had declared Memorial Day a holiday. Enjoy your holiday.

Twig Wreaths Rustic or Elegant?

Twigs are an extremely popular material for wreaths. A wreath can be made entirely of twigs for a rustic, primitive look or can have all sorts of materials added to transform them into a graceful design. The charm of twig wreaths stems from their raw, natural beauty.

Twigs can be bent easily and therefore were probably some of the first materials used to make wreaths. Many twigs are naturally highlighted with beautiful berries. Some twigs take on an entire color of their own. Bayberry twigs, for example, are thin with a slightly bluish-brown color and the red dogwood is a beautiful burnt red. Selecting a wreath, made from these basic yet striking materials, in the shape of a heart or a swirl twig wreath will make a wonderful eye catching statement any where you decide to use it.

Twig wreaths can also be graceful and elegant. Matching the pattern of the swirling twigs, greens with daisies or roses can brighten any room. Dried flowers of all shades and shapes also add an exquisite motif to the twig base and the room decor.

Decorating with Large Wreaths

A large wall wreath is the perfect addition to the space above your mantle overlooking a fireplace, and can be changed according to seasonal or holiday themes.

They are stunning when centered on a wall that needs a great decorative piece for dressing. Complimentary swags also add their elegance to your choice of style.

Don’t be confused about hanging a large wall wreath for maximum effect. Typically, the larger the wreath, the higher you will want to place it on the wall. Larger wreaths usually weigh more than smaller wreaths, so you will need a good metal hanger or a sturdy and durable nail as opposed to plastic hanging fixtures. Make sure that the nail or hanger is properly installed and secured before hanging your wreath.

If you take a careful look through your home, you are certain to find many places suitable for displaying large wall wreaths. Having a wreath custom made for an empty space is a great way to add the personal touch to your home.

How to Make a Diaper Wreath

Want a unique gift to give for your next baby shower?
